GoCar users have told us that Glendalough is their most location for a day trip on the weekend!
And speaking from experience, we can’t blame them. You could go for 60 minutes of 6 hours, and still always feel like you haven’t had long enough.
There has been a lot of effort to make Glendalough accessible for those just looking for a relaxing walk and for people who want something a little more challenging, by creating lots of different routes with plenty to see on each one.
The grounds are great for enjoying a little picnic, but if the weather isn’t on your side then there are plenty of great restaurants in the village too. Glendalough’s Monastic City is one of the most prominent features of Ireland’s Ancient East, with the stunning Round Tower, St. Kevin’s Church, and much more.
For us, the lakes, from where it takes its’ name (‘the glen of two lakes’), is the best feature. It’s beautiful at any time of the day, and there are lots of different routes around it too.
You might even come across some wildlife!
