Most of us are now back to work after what was a lovely break over the festive period. All eyes are now surely set on the first weekend of 2018 and what can be done to start the year off the right way. Many are feeling the pinch after Christmas, partaking in a dry January and have fitness resolutions to keep on track. With these things in mind why not spend a day this weekend hiking in the nearby beauty of the Wicklow Mountains.
With over 250 cars across Dublin it’s easy to find a car to take you on your trip and with only an hours drive to Glendalough it’s a relatively short spin to what promises to be a great day out for all.
Well known as the Garden of Ireland these mountains are home to some of the best views in the country. Arguably the best view of all comes when overlooking Glendalough’s Upper Lake which is surrounded by rising hills with plenty of forestry ready to be explored. Walking trails are easily found and make it easy to find your way. It’s not only the views that draw the masses that visit, Glendalough is also home to 6th century history. Close to the lake you’ll comes across an early Chritian monastic settlement, founded by St. Kevin. You’ll find plenty of buildings still intact, a famous round tower and an interactive centre that features audio visual displays where you can dive into the diverse history of the settlement.
So there you have it, a great destination for a weekend road trip to kick off 2018 the right way!
