You’re Welcome! Over 2000 Cars Not Filling Up Streets And Parking Spaces Thanks To GoCar
GoCar Continues Fighting Dublin Gridlock And Launches New App
Finding Affordable Insurance Identified As Biggest Problem With Car Ownership
The current insurance crisis has been acknowledged in a survey of GoCar users, with the biggest problem with owning a car being identified as finding affordable insurance. The second biggest problem with ownership was maintenance and fuel costs, making it clear that Dubliners are fed up with paying over the odds to own and run a car, and are keen to find new ways to get around. The overwhelming enthusiasm for Dublin Bikes took many skeptics by surprise, and the sign-ups for GoCar has been growing recently as people learn that there’s a service like Dublin Bikes, for cars!
In the customer survey of 581 members, 69% of survey respondents highlighted convenience as the best thing about GoCar, with over 150 cars across Dublin city and Cork meaning they have easy access to cars 24/7 on a pay-as-you-go basis. In an effort to make the service even more convenient to users, GoCar has launched a new App so users can sign up in minutes and book cars in the blink of an eye. Car sharing has been embraced by both Irish and expats living in Ireland, with almost a 50/50 split between the two sets of users.
Almost 40% of GoCar users surveyed said they previously owned a car in Ireland but do not anymore, while a staggering 60% of GoCar users said that if GoCar did not exist, they would buy a car. This is over 2000 cars not causing traffic jams every day and filling parking spaces across the city!
This means that every GoCar on the road is avoiding private cars filling up our streets and residential parking in and around the city. With only around 10,000 parking spaces in Dublin, this shows the impact that the car sharing service is already having on easing Dublin’s over-dependence on car ownership. A survey by sat nav maker TomTom identified Dublin as the fourth most congested city in Europe, showing the need for both the Government and local authorities to continue their support of car sharing efforts.
GoCar users identified day trips on the weekend as their number 1 use of the service, with Howth and Glendalough featuring prominently as popular destinations. The other main weekend uses for the cars were ‘doing the big shop’, and spins out to IKEA or B&Q.
The biggest use on weekdays were driving to meetings, driving to training, and ferrying family around. 39% of GoCar users said that they’ve replaced taking taxis with driving GoCars, with the hourly rates bettering taxi costs and saving money for both SMEs and multinationals across the city.
